Georgina Blakeley is a Professor and Associate Dean of Teaching and Learning in the School of Human and Health Sciences at the University of Huddersfield. She previously served as Director of Teaching in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the Open University (2006–2019), where she specialized in distance-learning materials for social sciences.
Her research centers on citizen participation, with dual expertise in Spanish politics—particularly democracy, democratisation, historical memory, and social movements—and local governance in England, focusing on devolution, metro-mayors, and combined authorities in Greater Manchester and the Liverpool City Region.
Her recent publications reflect a strong trend in urban governance, devolution, and political participation, with articles and books analyzing metro-mayoral institutions, economic development models, and citizen engagement in regeneration projects. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to inclusive governance and democratic institutions.
