معرفی
George Panagis is a Faculty Member at the Department of Psychology, University of Crete. His research investigates pharmacological and neural mechanisms of reward, drug addiction, and psychiatric disorders, focusing on predisposing/protective factors and behavioral-neurochemical correlations.
- Education: Ph.D. in Psychology (University of Crete, 1996); M.Sc. in Psychology (University of Crete, 1995); B.Sc. in Philosophy & Social Studies (University of Crete, 1992).
His experimental approaches include intracranial self-stimulation, pharmacology, and behavioral assays (e.g., elevated plus maze, forced swim test), complemented by neurochemical and morphological analyses. Collaborative work explores synaptic function, neuroplasticity, and cannabinoid interactions with reward systems.
Recent publications highlight studies on curcumin derivatives, lithium, aripiprazole, and cannabidiol. Research trends span addiction neurobiology, serotonin receptor interactions, endocannabinoid modulation, and neuroplasticity in mood disorders.
He teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in physiological psychology, neurobiology of addiction, and psychopharmacology. Grants from the Ministry of Education (Heraklitos I), General Secretariat for Research and Development (EPAN), and University of Crete Research Committee funded his work.
