George Hoberg is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of British Columbia (UBC), cross-appointed to the Faculty of Forestry. His research focuses on environmental and natural resource policy, with emphases on energy policy, forest governance, climate adaptation, and the role of knowledge in policy processes. He has authored books on U.S. environmental policy, toxic substances regulation, and BC forest policy, and edited comparative studies on Canada-US policies.
Teaching includes undergraduate Sustainable Energy: Policy and Governance (Political Science 350) and a graduate course on Governance for Sustainability (FRST 523). His work explores policy design challenges in climate mitigation, regulatory reform, and participatory decision-making. Notable contributions address oil sands pipeline controversies, barriers to renewable energy infrastructure, and adaptive forest management strategies.
