George Elliott is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Cornerstone Program at Purdue University with a courtesy appointment in the Department of History. He completed his PhD in History at Brown University in 2022. Beginning Fall 2025, he will serve as Associate Editor for Knowledge Indiana, a digital humanities project developing an interactive encyclopedia of Indiana history. His academic roles blend teaching, research, and digital scholarship, with prior experience at Brown University's Center for Digital Scholarship.
Elliott's research explores interdisciplinary themes:
- History of science in colonial New England and the Atlantic world
- Alchemy and early chemistry, particularly through household practices
- Medical history in early American contexts
- Saltbox science as a framework for domestic laboratories
- Digital humanities methodologies in historical research
His publications, including work in Ambix, analyze colonial scientific practices, emphasizing household spaces and figures like Gershom Bulkeley. These contributions intersect with broader fields like early American studies and historical geography.
Elliott leads digital initiatives as Research and Administrative Manager for Knowledge Indiana and previously contributed to Furnace and Fugue—winner of the American Historical Association’s 2022 Roy Rosenzweig Prize. His teaching portfolio includes:
- Cornerstone Program courses on research/writing through texts in science history and philosophy
- Specialized classes on laboratory history, medical practice, global piracy, early America, and early modern Europe
