George Cybenko is the Dorothy and Walter Gramm Professor of Engineering at Dartmouth College. His research focuses on information systems theory, cybersecurity, machine learning, and data mining. He holds a BSc in Mathematics from the University of Toronto (1974), an MA (1975), and a PhD (1978) in Mathematics from Princeton University.
Key research areas include agent-based systems engineering, deception detection, insider threat analysis, and process query systems. Cybenko has co-founded FlowTraq (Riverbed), a cybersecurity startup, and has been recognized with prestigious awards such as the AAAS Fellowship and the SPIE Eric A. Lehrfeld Award (2016).
He teaches courses like ENGS 27 (Discrete and Probabilistic Systems) and ENGS 108 (Applied Machine Learning). His work intersects academic research with real-world applications in cybersecurity, AI, and interdisciplinary innovation programs like the I3P initiative. Cybenko is actively involved in Dartmouth’s Institute for Security, Technology, and Society and has contributed to projects funded by DARPA and other agencies.
