George Arhonditsis is a Professor and Vice Dean of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies at the Department of Physical & Environmental Sciences, University of Toronto Scarborough. His research focuses on aquatic biogeochemical modeling, plankton ecology, Bayesian inference, and environmental management. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of the Aegean and has received prestigious awards including the Elsevier Best Paper Award (2012 & 2014) and the Ontario Early Researcher Award (2009).
Research Interests include ecosystem modeling, climate impacts on freshwater systems, nutrient dynamics, and harmful algal blooms. His work integrates field data, statistical methods, and mechanistic models to address environmental challenges. Notable contributions include studies on Lake Erie phosphorus management, Bayesian framework applications, and the ecological consequences of climate change.
Recent articles highlight climate-driven harmful algal blooms, agricultural sustainability, and watershed modeling. He leads initiatives to improve adaptive management strategies and environmental policy integration. His labs and teams collaborate globally, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to water quality and ecological forecasting.
