Georg Schmidt is a Lecturer in the Department of Architecture at Alanus Hochschule, combining academic teaching with a prominent career as a visual artist. Since 2017, he has held annual teaching appointments focusing on color theory within the Faculty of Architecture.
Education: Born in 1962 in Lübeck, he studied Philosophy (1985–1989) at the University of Hamburg, followed by Fine Arts at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts (from 1986) and the Düsseldorf Art Academy (from 1994), graduating in 1995 as a master student under Gotthard Graubner.
Research interests center on the intersection of painting and quantum physics, as seen in works like *Interface – Painting Parallel to Quantum Physics* (2023). His artistic practice explores light, spatial dynamics, and conceptual themes through large-scale formats and installations.
Exhibitions (selected): Over 30 solo and group exhibitions across Europe, including *GESCHICHTE* (2019, Düsseldorf), *TIDE* (2017, Schweinfurt), and *Latitude 2025* (2024). Works are held in collections such as the Museum Kunstpalast (Düsseldorf) and the Overbeck Society (Lübeck).
Artistic works include large-format oil paintings (*Higgs I*, 2018), glass and steel installations (*Wing*, 2020), and lithographs (*Amnis*, 2020). His practice integrates philosophical inquiry with material experimentation, emphasizing light's role as a medium for intellectual reflection.
