Prof. Geoffrey Stewart Morrison is an Associate Professorial Research Fellow at Aston University, affiliated with the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences and the Aston Institute for Forensic Linguistics. He directs the Forensic Data Science Laboratory and holds roles in global forensic science committees, including chairing the BSI Forensic Science Committee and serving on ISO's Forensic Science Committee. His primary research focuses on forensic inference, data science applications in forensics, and speech science analysis.
Dr. Morrison earned his PhD from the University of Alberta and has held positions at institutions like the University of New South Wales and the University of Alberta. He has received the 2019 Aston Achievement Award for Outstanding Research Impact and contributed to over £6M in UKRI-funded research expanding forensic science excellence.
His research emphasizes transparent, reproducible methods using statistical models and machine learning, challenging traditional subjective approaches. Key projects include ISO 21043 standard interpretations, bi-Gaussian likelihood-ratio calibration, and forensic voice comparison validations. He collaborates globally with law enforcement and academic researchers, advancing forensic paradigms through data-driven methodologies.
Dr. Morrison advises on forensic casework across multiple countries and publishes in top journals like Science & Justice and Forensic Science International. His work bridges forensic science and legal systems, advocating for rigor in evaluation frameworks and validation practices.
