Geoffrey Newman

Geoffrey Newman is a Sessional Lecturer (Continuing) at the Vancouver School of Economics, University of British Columbia. His principal affiliation was previously at the University of Toronto, where he started as an Assistant Professor. He has held positions at Drew University, London School of Economics, and visiting roles at UC Santa Barbara and Université Libre de Bruxelles.

His research examines macroeconomic theory, political economy, and institutional economics, with specific focus on:

• Economic coordination through norms and institutions
• Consumer choice theory and social conventions
• Growth theory with search/matching frameworks
• Political economy of vested interests
• Creative destruction dynamics

His publications explore Schumpeterian growth models and rational distortion in economic behavior, bridging institutional analysis with macroeconomic frameworks.
