He began his career at HSE in 2008 and has accumulated 17 years of scientific and teaching experience.
His educational background includes a PhD from University Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne (2014) in Natural Sciences with a dissertation on "Private Interests, Endogenous Institutions and Schumpeterian Growth," a Candidate of Economic Sciences degree (2012) from HSE on "Transition from stagnation to development in the theory of economic growth with human capital," and multiple degrees from HSE including Master's (2008) and Bachelor's (2006) in Economics. He has participated in numerous scientific internships at prestigious institutions including Brown University, Free University of Berlin, and Warwick University.
Veselov's research focuses primarily on the theory of economic growth, political economy of development, and macroeconomics. His work examines institutional changes, social mobility, wealth distribution, and the dynamics of economic transitions from stagnation to growth. He has made significant contributions to understanding how political institutions interact with economic development processes, particularly in transition economies and resource-rich countries. His approach combines theoretical modeling with empirical analysis, often examining historical patterns of economic development across different institutional settings.
His publication record shows consistent output across multiple high-impact journals and working paper series, with a clear trajectory from theoretical growth models toward more applied research on institutional change and development. Recent work has increasingly focused on welfare convergence in transition economies, the political economy of industrialization, and social mobility dynamics. His research demonstrates strong interdisciplinary connections between economics, political science, and sociology.
