Geoffrey D. Dabelko is a Professor at the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Service at Ohio University, where he also serves as a faculty member in International Studies and is affiliated with the Ohio Center for Ecology and Evolutionary Studies (OCEES). He previously held leadership roles as Director of the Environmental Studies Program and Associate Dean at the Voinovich School. He is a Senior Advisor to the Environmental Change and Security Program (ECSP) at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington, D.C., where he served as director from 1997 to 2012.

Geoffrey Dabelko holds a Ph.D. in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland, College Park, and an AB in Political Science from Duke University.

His research centers on environmental peacebuilding, climate security, and environmental leadership. He investigates how environmental cooperation can foster peace, analyzes the links between climate change and conflict, and leads the Grey Green Alliance initiative to build climate-resilient, age-friendly communities. His work bridges academic research and policy engagement, focusing on sustainability, ecological justice, and global environmental governance.
Dabelko’s recent publications reflect a strong trend in interdisciplinary environmental scholarship, particularly at the intersection of climate change, security, and social equity. His edited volume Green Planet Blues remains a cornerstone text in global environmental politics, while his contributions to national and international climate assessments highlight his influence on policy. Articles span themes such as climate-justice, environmental defenders, water grabs, and post-conflict environmental governance, demonstrating a consistent focus on power, equity, and sustainability.

He has advised numerous international bodies, including the United Nations Environment Programme’s Expert Advisory Group and the Environmental Peacebuilding Association. He also serves on editorial boards for journals such as Global Environmental Change, Environment, and Environment and Security.
He leads the Dabelko Research Group at Ohio University, which brings together students, faculty, and practitioners to conduct applied research on environmental peacebuilding, climate security, and age-friendly climate resilience. The group emphasizes collaboration with global scholars and engagement with real-world policy challenges.
