Geoffrey Cox

Geoff Cox is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Huddersfield's School of Arts and Humanities, specializing in Media, Humanities, and the Arts. He is affiliated with the Centre for Research in New Music and the Centre for Research in Music and its Technologies.

• Education: First-class BA in Composition (Huddersfield, 1999), PhD on Sampling in Music (2007)
• Research Interests: Electroacoustic composition, sound-image relationships, popular musicology, field recording, and documentary film soundtracks

His recent works explore ambient soundscapes and ecological themes, while earlier projects focus on post-punk aesthetics and jazz-classical fusion. Cox collaborates on interdisciplinary projects involving digital products and multimedia installations.

As a peer reviewer for Studies in Documentary Film and Music, Sound and the Moving Image, he contributes to academic discourse in film and sound studies. Cox actively supervises PhD students and engages in international presentations, including a 2025 visiting appointment at Université de Toulouse.
