Geoffrey C. Kellow is an Associate Professor of Humanities and Undergraduate Advisor at Carleton University’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, specializing in the History of Political and Economic Thought. He holds a PhD from Carleton University and previously taught at Grant MacEwan College. His research focuses on Adam Smith, Benjamin Franklin, and Cicero’s philosophy, emphasizing liberal capitalism and civic republicanism. Kellow is affiliated with the Carleton Centre for the Study of Islam, Centre for Jewish Studies, and Medieval & Early Modern Studies.
Education: B.A. (Political Science) from Concordia University (1994), B.A. (Philosophy) from McGill University (1996), M.A. (Political Theory) from McMaster University (1998), and Ph.D. (Political Science) from Carleton University (2003).
His research explores the intellectual origins of liberal capitalism, with notable works analyzing Smith and Franklin. Kellow’s articles and books bridge historical political thought with modern debates on education and governance. He contributes to interdisciplinary projects, including collaborations with the Macdonald-Laurier Institute on Canada’s foundational texts.
Publications include The Wisdom of the Commons (2022) and co-editing On Civic Republicanism (2016). His op-eds and reviews address Canadian history and contemporary political challenges.
