Geoff Woods is a Professor (Personal Chair) of Medical Genetics at the University of Cambridge and a Consultant Clinical Geneticist affiliated with the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research (CIMR). His research focuses on Mendelian disorders of neurodevelopment, particularly genetic mechanisms underlying pain insensitivity and hyperalgesia. Research themes include Rare Genetic Diseases and Neurological Diseases.
Research Interests: Dr. Woods investigates inherited disorders affecting pain perception using genomic approaches to identify causative mutations. His work aims to translate genetic discoveries into novel analgesic therapeutics targeting pain pathways.
Funding & Team: Supported by Wellcome Trust, BBSRC, Cambridge NIHR Biomedical Research Centre, Addenbrooke's Charitable Trust, and Open Targets. Leads a research group including Kathleen Ng, Samiha Shaikh, Yunisa Pamela, and Shalini Roy Choudhury.
Academic Roles: Supervises PhD students and provides clinical consultancy in genetics.
