Geoff Wehmeyer is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Rice University, leading the Nanoscale Heat Transfer Lab. He specializes in experimental and theoretical studies of heat transfer mechanisms in nanomaterials and designs thermal management systems. His work bridges mechanical engineering, nanoscience, and materials science to address challenges in electronics cooling, energy conversion, and thermal control.
Dr. Wehmeyer earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin (2013) and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley (2018), supported by NSF and Berkeley Graduate Fellowships. His research focuses on thermal property measurements, nanoscale thermometry via electron microscopy, and nonlinear thermal systems. Notable projects include developing ultra-high resolution temperature mapping tools and designing magnetic thermal diodes for building insulation.
His scientific awards include the CTE Faculty Fellow (2021–2027), the Sophia Meyer Farb Prize for Teaching (2021), and the NASA Early Career Faculty Award (2019). His lab’s research emphasizes translating fundamental thermal insights into macroscopic technologies, such as energy-efficient thermal regulators and high-conductivity nanomaterials.
