Gennaro Sansone is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Civil and Urban Engineering at New York University Tandon School of Engineering since 1988. He also serves as a rolling stock engineering consultant at CH2M HILL after retiring from New York City Transit (NYCT) as Chief Mechanical Officer following 37 years of service.

- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (Kansas State University, 1967)
His research interests focus on program/project management for advanced rail vehicle procurements, maintenance systems optimization, and facility planning. He pioneered NYCT's SMS reliability-based maintenance system and oversaw $6B vehicle procurement programs including R110, R142, R143, R160, and R188 subway cars.
Mr. Sansone has authored four books including "New York Subways" and numerous technical papers. His professional achievements include:
- Led engineering efforts for 3,500+ advanced subway vehicle procurements
- Modernized maintenance facilities for new technologies
- Developed carbody crashworthiness standards
- Coordinated MTA Energy/Carbon subcommittee
He has received multiple industry recognitions including Subway Manager of the Year and IEEE Engineer of the Year awards. Currently, he supports global transit agencies with vehicle engineering and procurement projects.
