Leila Adu-Gilmore is an Assistant Professor of Music Technology at the Music and Performing Arts Professions department in NYU’s Steinhardt School. She holds a PhD in music composition from Princeton University and has composed for prestigious ensembles like the London Sinfonietta and the Crossing. In 2022, she received the Charles Ives Composer Fellowship from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

Her research focuses on decolonizing music practices, Ghanaian music studies, and culturally sustaining music technology. She teaches courses like Seminar in Composition: Chamber Ensembles and Electronics and Global Electronic Music I, emphasizing postcolonial contexts and critical sonic practices. Her work bridges avant-classical, electropop, and singer-songwriter genres, with acclaimed albums and performances globally.
Research & Community: Adu-Gilmore co-founded Die Jim Crow Records and taught music at Sing Sing Correctional Facility through Musicambia. Her lab, Critical Sonic Practice Lab, explores decolonial methodologies in music research.
