Geneviève Lajoie is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the Université de Montréal. Her research focuses on understanding the ecological and evolutionary mechanisms underlying plant-microbe associations, particularly in phyllosphere environments. She leads projects investigating microbial diversity on plant surfaces, leveraging genomic and phylogenetic approaches. Affiliated with the IRBV (Institut de recherche en biologie végétale) and CSBQ (Centre de la science de la biodiversité du Québec), her work addresses environmental challenges through microbial applications in plant health and ecosystem sustainability.
Recent grants include funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) for projects on host-symbiont dynamics and MITACS for studies on plant microbiome resilience. Her lab collaborates with the Montreal Botanical Garden to explore microbiome roles in disease prevention. Key research themes include microbial functional ecology, phylogenetic analysis, and symbiosis mechanisms.
Research outputs emphasize trait-based approaches, microbial community assembly, and adaptation strategies in diverse environments. Her work bridges ecology, evolution, and genomics to address global challenges in biodiversity and climate change.
