معرفی
Associate Professor Genevieve Williams is a faculty member in the Department of Public Health and Sport Sciences, Faculty of Health & Life Sciences, University of Exeter. She joined Exeter in 2017 as a Lecturer, progressed to Senior Lecturer in 2021, and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2024, with prior roles at Anglia Ruskin University and postdoctoral fellowships at Penn State and University of Massachusetts.
Her educational background includes:
- PhD in Sport, Cardiff Metropolitan University (2008-2012)
- BSc (Hons.) Sport and Exercise Sciences (First Class), Cardiff Metropolitan University (2005-2008)
- PGCert Teaching in Higher Education, Anglia Ruskin University (2015)
Her research adopts a systems-level approach to human movement control, focusing on two core themes: (1) dynamic stability during standing/walking across healthy, ageing, and pathological populations through sensory-motor integration; and (2) developing rapid (<3 min) neuro-cognitive assessments for head vibration/impact effects in sports/occupational settings to improve safety standards and mitigate subconcussive injury risks. This work integrates biomechanics, neuromuscular function, and perception-action coupling for data-driven movement rehabilitation.
She actively contributes to:
- INTERSECT Human Movement group
- Exeter Biomechanics Research Team (ExBiRT)
- Co-director of Exeter Head Impact Brain Impact and Trauma (ExHIBIT) research group
Her professional recognition includes:
- Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2020)
- Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2015)
Professor Williams supervises externally funded postgraduate researchers (MSc/PhD), engages in consultancy, serves as Senate Representative (since 2024), and provides external examining and keynote speaking services, with research aligned to Sustainable Development Goals 3 (Health) and 9 (Innovation).
