Genevieve Cohn serves as a Visiting Lecturer in the Art Studio Art department at Wellesley College, teaching foundational and advanced courses including Drawing I, Painting I, and Advanced Independent Projects. Her pedagogy emphasizes painting and drawing as methods for deep engagement with personal and collective histories.
Her educational background includes:
- B.A. from Ithaca College
- M.F.A. from Indiana University-Bloomington
Cohn's artistic practice centers on constructing female-centric communities through historical and imaginative frameworks, drawing from sources like the Women's Land Army of World Wars I and II. She explores collaboration, self-endowed agency, and connections to the natural world through themes of adornment, ritual, beauty, and sacred space construction. Her work investigates how intersectional identities translate into visual imagery, focusing on the practices of seeing, discovery, and creation.
As an exhibiting artist, Cohn has shown work nationally with venues including Mindy Solomon Gallery in Miami and Steven Zevitas Gallery in Boston. She has held residencies at AiRgentum (Seville), Vermont Studio Center, Ragdale Foundation, and Fiore Art Center.
In teaching, she guides students through observational strategies, color theory, and compositional techniques while fostering critical awareness of art's role in interpreting complex lived experiences. Her courses support both technical skill development and conceptual exploration of identity and history.
