Professor Gene Tyson is an internationally recognized expert in microbial meta-omics and bioinformatics at Queensland University of Technology (QUT). He holds the position of Professor and Australian Laureate Fellow in the School of Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Health. His research focuses on understanding microbial communities in clinical and environmental systems, including pioneering work on metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, and metaproteomics. He has contributed significantly to identifying microbial lineages regulating Earth's carbon cycle and developing widely used bioinformatic tools for meta-omic data analysis.
Education: PhD in Microbiology.
