Johan Sebastian Saenz is a PostDoc researcher at the Institute of Animal Science, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, University of Hohenheim. Currently pursuing his PhD at the Technical University of Munich (since 2016), he specializes in metaproteomics and microbiome analysis.
- Education: M.Sc in Biological Science, Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (2012-2014); Bachelor in Industrial Microbiology, Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (2006-2011)
His research focuses on environmental disturbances and their impact on microbial communities and mobile genetic elements, particularly how feed-microbiome interactions affect livestock. He employs multi-omics approaches including metaproteomics, metabolomics, and metagenomics.
Recent publications highlight his work on Prevotella spp. metabolism, antiviral defense systems, microplastic-microbiome interactions, and vitamin B12 as cancer biomarker. He contributes to the Hohenheim Center for Livestock Microbiome Research (HoLMiR) network.
Key collaborations include work with Prof. Dr. Jana Seifert (University of Hohenheim), Manuel Ferrer, and Paul Wilmes. His methodological expertise spans protein extraction from complex microbiomes, bioinformatic analysis, and anaerobic bacterial cultivation.
