Gene Flenady is a Lecturer in Philosophy at Monash University. He holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Warwick (2015–2019) and an MA in Critical Theory from Monash University (2009–2013). His research focuses on the intersection of German Idealism, critical social theory, and the ethical implications of emerging technologies on education and meaningful work. He has received the Mollie Holman Medal (2019) for academic excellence.
Key research interests include AI ethics, pedagogical innovation, and the philosophical foundations of human rational agency. He has collaborated on projects addressing automated education systems, GenAI feedback mechanisms, and workplace dynamics. Notable activities include co-organizing the 2024 workshop 'AI in Education: Ethical and Epistemic Perspectives.' His work bridges classical philosophy with contemporary issues, emphasizing normative assessments of technology's societal impact.
