Benjamin Kiesewetter is a Professor of Practical Philosophy at Bielefeld University and Principal Investigator of the ERC project 'The Structure of Normativity.' His research focuses on foundational questions in moral philosophy, metaethics, and the theory of reasons and rationality, alongside normative/applied ethics, political philosophy, and epistemology.
He holds an M.A. (2007) and Ph.D. (2014) in philosophy from Humboldt University of Berlin, with visiting positions at the University of Nottingham, UC Berkeley, and others. He has been awarded the Humboldt Prize (2014), Stegmüller Prize (2018), and German Award for Philosophy (2024).
His research explores the interplay between rationality, normativity, and ethical theory. Recent work includes studies on deontic dilemmas, epistemic normativity, and the transmission principle in normative contexts. He leads a major ERC project examining the structure of normativity, with a forthcoming book in Ethics and multiple publications in top journals like Noûs and The Philosophical Review.
Awards include the ERC Starting Grant (2022) and German Award for Philosophy (2024). Upcoming talks and lectures address nonconsequentialist ethics, epistemic permissiveness, and exclusionary reasons. His work bridges theoretical philosophy with practical applications in ethics and public discourse.
