Gelsey Bell is a composer, vocalist, and scholar affiliated with The New School's College of Performing Arts, Department of Jazz and Contemporary Music. She holds a Ph.D. in Performance Studies from New York University and is recognized for her experimental music compositions, interdisciplinary collaborations, and academic publications. Bell teaches courses such as 'Creative Collaborations' (COPA 1111) and 'The Entrepreneur Citizen-Artist' (CMUS 5300).

Research Interests: Bell’s work bridges experimental music composition, interdisciplinary performance, and the intersection of sound, text, and visual art. She explores themes of improvisation, collaborative creation, and the sociopolitical dimensions of artistic practice.
Key Collaborations: Core member of ensemble thingNY and founding member of Varispeed, known for adaptations of Robert Ashley’s Perfect Lives and John Cage’s Empty Words. Collaborations include works with choreographers, visual artists, and composers such as Merce Cunningham and Matthew Barney.
