Geir Ulfstein is an Emeritus Professor of International Law at the University of Oslo, affiliated with the Faculty of Law's Department of Public and International Law. He has held key roles, including Co-Director of PluriCourts (2013–2023), Director of the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights (2004–2008), and Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board at the Max Planck Institute for Procedural Law (2016–2023). His research focuses on international law, human rights, international courts, environmental law, and treaty interpretation, with contributions to landmark cases like Qatar v UAE and the Svalbard Treaty.
Ulfstein has authored influential works, including Introduction to International Law and co-edited book series on human rights and international courts. He received the University of Oslo Research Prize 2021 and is a member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters.
