Geir Øystein Lysne is a Professor at the Norwegian Academy of Music’s Department of Improvised Music, Jazz and Folk Music. He concurrently serves as Chief Conductor of the NDR Big Band (Hamburg) and Curator for the Norwegian Wind Ensemble’s innovative 'Real-Time Music' initiative. His career spans composition, saxophone performance, and ensemble leadership, with works performed in over 30 countries.
Lysne’s research explores jazz, collective improvisation, and cross-genre integration, notably blending electronic, folk, and world music. His scholarly publications analyze conductor-less orchestras, artistic collaboration, and cultural dynamics, reflecting a multidisciplinary approach.
