Dr. Geetha Gopalan is an Associate Professor at the Silberman School of Social Work, Hunter College, having previously served at the University of Maryland School of Social Work. Her research focuses on implementing evidence-based mental health interventions for youth and families, particularly those involved in child welfare systems. She specializes in family-level interventions to address youth mental health and reduce risk behaviors among high-need families.
Dr. Gopalan has led an NIMH-funded study expanding the Multiple Family Groups (MFG) intervention to reduce child disruptive behavior. She also participated in NIMH intervention research training institutes. Clinically, she worked in NYC child welfare and adolescent emergency psychiatry at Kings County Hospital. Her work bridges research and practice to improve outcomes for vulnerable populations.
