Gayatri Reddy is an Associate Professor at the University of Illinois Chicago, holding joint appointments in Gender and Women's Studies, Global Asian Studies, and Anthropology. She currently serves as Director of Graduate Studies for Gender and Women's Studies. Her work focuses on intersections of sexuality, gender, race, and diaspora in South Asia and its global communities. Reddy holds a PhD in Anthropology from Emory University (2000), an MPH in Public Health (2001), and earlier degrees from Columbia University (MA 1992) and the University of Delhi (BA 1990).
Her research explores topics including hijra communities in South India, racial formations among Siddi populations in Hyderabad, and transnational migration histories. She co-founded the Dis/Placements public history project documenting Chicago's Uptown neighborhood. Key publications include With Respect to Sex (2006) and forthcoming works on blackness in India and culinary diasporas.
