Gavin Hugh Thomas is Professor of Biology at the University of York's Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, specializing in molecular biochemistry and transport mechanisms. His research employs quantum chemical methods to investigate hydrogen bonding, supramolecular complexes, and vibrational spectroscopy (IR/Raman/VCD) in biological systems. Current projects focus on sialic acid transporters in pathogenic bacteria and conformational dynamics of membrane proteins.
As Editor-in-Chief of Microbiology (2020-2023), he shaped dissemination of microbiological research. Additional roles include BBSRC committee advisor and lead for university disability support initiatives.
