Dr Gavin Grindon is a Lecturer in Cultural and Creative Industries at Queen Mary University of London, affiliated with the Department of Business and Society and the Centre on Labour, Sustainability and Global Production (CLaSP). He holds a PhD in Cultural Criticism from Manchester University (2007) under Prof. Terry Eagleton. His research focuses on activist art, protest cultures, and museum studies, with a particular emphasis on 'art history from below.'
Key roles include Shadow Programme Director for the MA Creative Industries and Arts Organisation. His curatorial work includes high-profile exhibitions such as Disobedient Objects (V&A, 2014) and the Palestinian-led Museum of the Occupation (2017). He has consulted for institutions like Tate Modern and the V&A, and his writing appears in Art History, Third Text, and The New York Times.
Research interests span activist curating, museum protest, and digital methods in cultural heritage. Notable projects include the Museum of Neoliberalism (2019) and Homs, You’re in Our Hearts (2024), a film reconstructing Syrian revolutionary culture. His work has generated significant social impact, including influencing cultural institutions to abandon corporate sponsorships.
