Gavin Barrett is a Professor at University College Dublin's Sutherland School of Law, holding a Jean Monnet Chair in European Constitutional and Economic Law. He joined UCD in 1999 and was promoted to full professor in 2014. His education includes an LL.B. and Ph.D. from Trinity College Dublin, and a Barrister-at-Law degree from King's Inns.
Barrett's research focuses on European Union law, with emphasis on constitutional frameworks, employment legislation, and the role of national parliaments in EU governance. His recent work examines crisis response mechanisms and democratic accountability within EU institutions.
Barrett's publications reflect a consistent focus on EU legal integration, democratic accountability, and crisis governance. His 15 most recent articles demonstrate expertise in judicial review mechanisms, parliamentary sovereignty during emergencies, and EU institutional reform.
