Professor Gary Sheffield is a Professorial Research Fellow in Military History and Course Co-Director for Military History at the University of Birmingham. His expertise centers on British military history from 1914–1945. He holds a PhD from King’s College, London, and prior roles include Land Warfare Historian at the Joint Services Staff College.
Education: BA and MA from the University of Leeds; PhD from King’s College, London.
Research focuses on World Wars I and II, military leadership, and British Army studies. His notable works include Forgotten Victory (2002) and The Chief: Douglas Haig and the British Army (2011), recognized with the Templer Medal and shortlisted for the Westminster Medal.
Awards: Templer Medal (2003), Fellowship of the Royal Historical Society, and Royal Society of Arts.
