Gary Nishikawa is a Lecturer of Accounting at the School of Accountancy, Shidler College of Business, University of Hawaii at Manoa. He holds an MBA from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and a BS from the University of California, Los Angeles. His expertise spans Accounting, Auditing, and Data Analytics in Business. Prior to academia, he served as an Audit Partner at Deloitte & Touche LLP from 1966 to 2012, retiring after 46 years. Nishikawa is recognized for his contributions to the accounting profession, including awards such as the Shidler College of Business Hall of Honor and the Hawaii Society of Certified Public Accountants Legacy Hall of Fame.
His research and teaching interests include Advanced Financial Accounting, Auditing methodologies, and the application of Data Analytics in business decision-making. He is actively involved in professional organizations, having held leadership roles in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Hawaii Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the Institute of Internal Auditors, among others. Nishikawa has also contributed to community initiatives through roles with Palama Settlement, Junior Achievement of Hawaii, and Bishop Museum.
As an educator, he teaches courses such as ACC 415 Advanced Financial Accounting, ACC 418 Auditing, and BUS 619 Data Analytics and Statistics for Business. His professional background bridges academia and industry, emphasizing practical applications of accounting principles.
