معرفی
Dr. Gary Mouradian is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He holds a PhD from MCW and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Colorado and MCW. His research focuses on the neural control of breathing in chronic lung diseases like COPD and BPD, with a particular emphasis on vagal sensory neurons and neuroepithelial bodies. He leads an interdisciplinary lab using techniques such as optogenetics, RNA sequencing, and transgenic mouse models.
Education: BA in Biology from Carthage College (2009), PhD in Physiology from MCW (2014). Professional Affiliations: American Physiological Society (2011-present), American Thoracic Society (2014-present).
Research Interests: Investigating how lung diseases disrupt neural breathing control via vagal fiber damage and neuroepithelial body dysfunction. Key areas include: 1) Vagal sensory neuron integrity in COPD/BPD, 2) Role of neuroepithelial bodies in respiratory modulation, 3) Molecular mechanisms underlying breathing dysfunction. Methodologies include patch-clamp electrophysiology and advanced imaging techniques.
Recent work highlights the importance of oxidative stress in lung diseases and the use of transcriptomic approaches to identify immune response markers in cardiorespiratory nuclei. His lab actively recruits students and postdocs, emphasizing mentorship tailored to individual career goals.
Awards: Parker B. Francis Award (2018), MCW Outstanding Medical Student Teacher (2022), Neuroscience Research Center Award (2023).
