Gary Koch

Gary Koch, PhD, is a Professor of Biostatistics and Director of the Biometric Consulting Laboratory at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Gillings School of Global Public Health. He joined the faculty in 1968 and has held leadership roles in statistical consulting, editorial boards, and advisory panels. His research focuses on categorical data analysis, clinical trials methodology, and non-parametric multivariate inference with applications across health sciences. Koch has authored numerous publications and received awards including the W.J. Dixon Award and Greenberg Alumni Endowment Award. He advises on biopharmaceutical statistics, clinical trial design, and regulatory affairs through roles at FDA panels, VA studies, and international conferences.

Service & Leadership: He has served on editorial boards for Statistics in Medicine, Journal of Biopharmaceutical Statistics, and others. His service includes roles with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, FDA panels, and the National Research Council. He also organized major statistical conferences and chaired key committees like the Fisher Lecture Award selection.
