He holds a long-standing academic appointment since 2019 and has extensive experience in anatomical pathology, cytopathology, and medical education across institutions in the UK (University of Cambridge), USA (Johns Hopkins), and Australia. His research focuses on pathology genetics, animal models of disease (e.g., transposon-induced mutagenesis), and stem cell biology, with collaborations in Germany and Cambridge. He retired from remunerative employment but continues research and teaching. External roles include Fellow of St Catherine's College UWA and past State Councillor of The Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia.
Education: BMedSc (UWA), MA, BM BCh (Oxford), and PhD (Rockefeller University).
Research interests encompass genetics of metabolic disorders (e.g., SMIM1-related weight), tumor suppressor genes, and platelet biology. He pioneered mouse pathology consortia in WA and contributed to studies on BrafV600E tumorigenesis and KCNJ5 mutations in adrenal tumors. Teaching roles include pathology tutoring across UWA courses (PATH2201, IMED3001, etc.) using the Hadley pathology collection.
Collaborations span institutions globally, including the Wellcome Sanger Institute and HPI (N Laing). His work integrates diagnostic pathology with translational research, emphasizing mouse models and clinical-pathological correlations.
