Dr. Gary Fraser is a Lecturer and Deputy Head of Institute (Education, Community and Society) at the University of Edinburgh’s Moray House School of Education and Sport. He specializes in Community Learning and Development (CLD), with a focus on adult education, community development, and qualitative research methodologies. His work critically examines neoliberalism’s impact on professional identity and practices in public sector community work.

Research Interests: Dr. Fraser’s research explores the intersection of CLD practices with neoliberal managerialism, professionalism in public services, and the application of Foucauldian theory to analyze institutional change. His recent work emphasizes ethnographic methods to study organizational shifts in community development sectors.
Teaching & Supervision: He leads modules such as ‘Ideology and Social Problems’ and ‘Community Based Research’ at the undergraduate level, and supervises dissertations for the MSc Social Justice and Community Action program. He is open to PhD supervision enquiries.
