Gary E. Bolton

Prof. Gary E. Bolton is the O.P. Jindal Distinguished Chair of Management Economics at the University of Texas at Dallas and a member of the Global Faculty at the University of Cologne. He also serves as Co-Director of the Laboratory for Behavioral Operations and Economics. His research focuses on economic/business decision-making, strategic games, bargaining, cooperation, reputation building, social utility, and strategic learning. He has held visiting positions at Harvard Business School, Caltech, University of Bonn, and others.

His current work emphasizes market mechanism design to improve decision-making, including feedback systems for trader trustworthiness and guidance systems for scientific forecast utilization. His research spans disciplines such as economics, business, psychology, and political science.

Publications reflect a trajectory from foundational theory (ERC model in 2000) to applied market design and behavioral operations. His work addresses topics like norm enforcement in markets, cost-loss game dynamics, and experimental analysis of strategic interactions.
