Gary Born

Gary Born is an Honorary Professor of Law at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland and Tsinghua University, Beijing, while maintaining his primary role as Chair of the International Arbitration Practice Group at WilmerHale. Widely regarded as the world's preeminent authority on international commercial arbitration, he has been ranked among the world's leading arbitration advocates for over 20 years.

His academic engagements include teaching positions at Harvard Law School, University of Pennsylvania Law School, Stanford Law School, Georgetown University Law Center, National University of Singapore, Peking University School of Transnational Law, University of Virginia School of Law, University College London and the University of Arizona College of Law. In 2019, he launched Born's International Arbitration Lectures, a comprehensive 100-hour online course through Wolters Kluwer.

His scholarly work focuses on international commercial arbitration, international litigation, and public international law, with particular expertise in investor-state disputes, jurisdictional issues, and enforcement of arbitral awards. His research has profoundly influenced both academic discourse and practical applications in international dispute resolution, with his treatises frequently cited by supreme courts worldwide.
