Gary Amy is a Dean’s Distinguished Professor (part-time) in the Department of Environmental Engineering and Earth Science at Clemson University. He holds affiliations with multiple institutions, including King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) and the National University of Singapore. His expertise spans drinking water treatment, wastewater reclamation, membrane technology, and low-energy desalination. Dr. Amy has authored over 500 refereed publications and supervised nearly 50 PhD students.
Research interests include seawater desalination, energy-efficient treatment processes, and managed aquifer recharge. He has led major grants exceeding $10 million in funding for projects like integrating hydroponic agriculture with non-conventional water sources and developing anti-fouling membrane technologies. Awards include the 2017 A.P. Black Research Award and the Fulbright Award (2003-2004).
His career includes roles at KAUST (2009–2014), UNESCO-IHE (2005–2009), and the University of Colorado. Current research focuses on controlled environment agriculture, nanobubbles for membrane fouling mitigation, and anaerobic membrane bioreactors.
