Garth Saloner

Garth Saloner is the Botha-Chan Professor of Economics at Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he served as Dean from 2009-2016. He holds a Ph.D., M.S., and A.M. from Stanford University, an MBA from University of the Witwatersrand, and a B.Com from the same institution.

His research examines:

• Organizational economics and strategic management
• Competitive strategy and market dynamics
• Entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystems
• Leadership development in global contexts

As Dean, he led significant expansions of faculty, programs, and facilities including the Knight Management Center. He co-founded the Stanford Institute for Innovation in Developing Economies (Seed) to combat global poverty through entrepreneurship.

Awards include:

• Two-time recipient of Stanford GSB's Distinguished Teaching Award
• Doctor Honoris Causa from Universidad ESAN
• Fellowship in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences
