Bryant Garth

Bryant Garth is a Distinguished Professor of Law Emeritus at the University of California, Irvine School of Law, and Co-Director of the Center for Empirical Research on the Legal Profession. He holds a joint appointment in Criminology, Law, and Society. Prior to his current role, he served as Dean of Southwestern Law School (2005–2012), Dean of Indiana University Bloomington School of Law (1986–1990), and Director of the American Bar Foundation (1990–2004). His research focuses on the legal profession, globalization, and the sociology of law, with notable works including Dealing in Virtue and Asian Legal Revivals, both awarded the Herbert Jacobs Award. Garth’s scholarship emphasizes empirical studies, legal education reform, and the global dynamics of legal systems.
