Emily Taylor Poppe is a Professor of Law at the University of California, Irvine School of Law, holding a courtesy appointment as Professor of Sociology. As Faculty Director of the Initiative for Inclusive Civil Justice, she leads interdisciplinary research addressing civil justice inequalities. Her work spans legal representation effects, estate law reforms, and legal profession regulation. She serves on editorial boards for Law & Social Inquiry and Law & Society Review, and holds roles with the American Law Institute and Uniform Law Commission.
Education: Ph.D. in Sociology (Cornell University), J.D. (Northwestern University), A.B. in Public Policy and Spanish (Duke University).
Research focuses on three core areas: civil justice access pathways, legal profession institutional dynamics, and equitable estate/trust law reforms. Recent honors include appointments as Reporter for the Uniform Transfers to Minors Act and Associate Reporter for High-Volume Civil Adjudication principles.
Teaching includes courses on Access to Civil Justice, Wills & Trusts, and Procedural Analysis. Active in law reform, she co-chairs the New Legal Realism Collaborative Research Network and advises on legal technology initiatives.
