معرفی
Prof Garry Myers is the Director of the Australian Institute for Microbiology & Infection (AIMI) at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). He holds a PhD in chlamydial biology from the University of Sydney (Faculty of Medicine) and completed postdoctoral work at The Institute for Genome Research (TIGR) in the US, focusing on microbial genomics and pathogenesis. His academic roles include Professor at AIMI (since 2021), Director of the institute (2019–present), and prior roles as Associate Professor at UTS (2014–2020).
His research interests center on genomic-scale analysis of bacterial pathogens, particularly Chlamydia, and their interactions with host cells. He has pioneered dual RNA-sequencing (dRNA-Seq) techniques to study host-pathogen dynamics and applies genomic approaches to understand chlamydial virulence, evolution, and disease mechanisms. He leads initiatives in mRNA vaccine development and diagnostics for animal health through AIMI.
Key contributions include co-founding the Institute for Genome Sciences at the University of Maryland (2007), leading the AusGEM initiative, and managing over 16 funded research grants. His work spans diverse pathogens like Acinetobacter baumannii and E. coli, with a focus on antimicrobial resistance and zoonotic transmission. Myers has authored/co-authored over 170 publications, including high-impact studies in Nature Biotechnology, Genome Research, and mSystems.
