معرفی
Dr Gareth Wright is a Lecturer at the School of Life Sciences, University of Essex, focusing on neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). His research explores proteostasis and targeted protein degradation using molecular, synthetic, and structural biology approaches.
- Research Interests: Synthetic biology, neurodegenerative disease mechanisms, protein degradation, and SOD1 biology.
- Grants: Academy of Medical Sciences (2023), The Royal Society (2023), BBSRC (2023), and Motor Neurone Disease Association (2022).
Recent Publications: Wright's work spans structural studies of SOD1 and its chaperone hCCS, synthetic protein editing tools, and investigations into bacterial enzyme systems. His 2025 study on bacterial polysaccharide lyase family 33 highlights evolutionary enzyme specificity, while 2023-2018 research focuses on SOD1-related ALS therapies, TDP-43 aggregation, and membrane transport systems.
- Scientific Awards:
- Academy of Medical Sciences Grant
- Royal Society Grant
- BBSRC Grant
- Motor Neurone Disease Association Grant
Students: Supervising PhD candidates Caitlin May O'shea (targeted protein degradation for neurodegenerative diseases) and Kimia Aghasoleimani (cell and molecular biology).
