معرفی
Gareth Owen is an Associate Professor in Inorganic Chemistry at the University of South Wales, within the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Science. He holds a PhD from Imperial College London (2003) and has held prestigious fellowships including the Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship (Germany) and Royal Society Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowship (UK). His research focuses on sustainable chemistry, particularly in CO2 conversion, hydrogen storage, graphene-based materials, and boron-based ligand systems. He leads a research group with five PhD students and one senior researcher, with a £1.2M grant portfolio. Notable awards include the 2012 Organometallics Fellowship from the American Chemical Society.
Research interests include development of methodologies for CO2 conversion via transition metal-mediated proton shuttle mechanisms, functionalization of coke oven by-products, and hydrogen storage catalysts using boron-containing Lewis acids. His work also explores oleophobic composite materials and sulfur compound transformations. Recent projects involve catalytic hydrogenation of CO2 to formate and design of stable ruthenium-based catalysts.
Over 54 research articles have been published (1902 citations, H-index 24 as of 2020), with contributions to journals like Organometallics and Inorganic Chemistry. His lab focuses on ligand cooperation in catalytic systems, borane-pincer complexes, and metallaboratrane structures. Grants support investigations into hydrogen atom storage and CO2 valorization pathways.
- Key Collaborations: International ACS fellowships, Bristol University collaborations, and multidisciplinary graphene applications
- Future Work: Scaling CO2 conversion technologies, advanced boron ligand design, and sustainable catalytic systems
