Professor Gareth Lloyd Evans is an Associate Professor of Old Norse and Tutorial Fellow at St John's College, University of Oxford. He specializes in Old Norse-Icelandic and Old/Middle English literature, with a focus on gender, sexuality, emotion, identity, and poetics. His current research examines emotion representation in Old Norse sagas, including a monograph The Poetics of Emotion in Old Norse Saga Narrative and co-editing New Studies on Emotion in Old Norse Literature. He leads the AHRC-funded 'Old Norse Emotion Network' (2024-2026).
He holds editorial roles for Saga-Book and serves on the Gender and Medieval Studies Group’s steering committee. His teaching spans medieval literature and critical theory. He supervises doctoral students in Old Norse studies, including Grace O'Duffy’s work on sexual violence in Old Norse texts.
Key projects include interdisciplinary emotion studies, medieval masculinity analyses, and collaborative editorial work. He actively participates in research networks such as the Old Norse in Oxford Seminar.
