Gareth Jones is an Assistant Professor in the School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management at Temple University’s Fox School of Business and Management. He holds a PhD and completed a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at SIRC (2016). His research focuses on the intersection of sport/recreation with youth development, community capacity building, and organizational management. Key areas include inter-organizational partnerships, sport-for-development (SFD) initiatives addressing social issues, and the application of methodologies like social network analysis and GIS.
Dr. Jones investigates how sport programs influence cognitive/social/physical development while analyzing service delivery systems across communities. He emphasizes equitable access to sport resources and evaluates both grassroots and large-scale SFD events. Methodologically, he employs qualitative techniques (interviews, observations) and quantitative approaches (GIS mapping, network analysis). His work also explores emerging trends like esports integration into traditional sport organizations and crisis-response physical activity interventions during pandemics.
