Gan Wang is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, Wayne State University. Holding a Ph.D. in Microbiology/Molecular Biology from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and postdoctoral training at the University of Connecticut and Yale Medical School, his research focuses on DNA damage responses and natural compound development for cancer and immune-related diseases.
- B.S., Microbiology, Shandong University (1983)
- Ph.D., Microbiology/Molecular Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (1989)
- Postdoctoral: University of Connecticut (1989-1993), Yale Medical School (1993-1996)
His lab investigates DNA repair, cell cycle arrest, and apoptosis in cancer treatment and drug resistance, with a recent emphasis on immunomodulatory compounds from Ganoderma lucidum. Publications highlight his work on PD-1 protein interactions, caffeine’s role in chemotherapy, and mechanisms of DNA repair inhibition.
Recent articles span cancer biology, pharmacology, and molecular biology, emphasizing DNA damage responses and natural product discovery for cancer and immune disorders. He teaches graduate-level courses in toxicology and pharmacology, including BIO7011/PHC7410 (Principles of Toxicology) and PHC7010 (Pharmacology Lecture).
